At BYU Continuing Education, everything we do puts students first. We’re more than pleased to introduce what might just be the best place to study on BYU campus: The Continuing Education Active Learning Lab.
This gem of a study area sprawls across the fourth floor of the Harmon building. Academic advisors quietly counsel students from all kinds of backgrounds, and the massive windows reveal a view of the mountains that truly inspires learning.
This unique facility is geared towards each individual student. It’s not uncommon to see academic coaches offering homework aid as well as Oreos to everyone in the room, and there’s even a popcorn machine available to all. Christlike generosity imbues everything that goes on in the center.
“We help them not just learn the concepts, but master them,” Kate Ashton, an academic advisor, said. This is possible through content-specific one-on-one tutoring. The lab also holds Active Learning sessions, where FlexGE students take the initiative in leading group study.
Sound-controlled private rooms offer a peaceful environment for students to take tests. The whiteboard-esque panels above the desks are full of motivational quotes and notes on everything from Calculus to the Book of Mormon. It’s distraction-free, communal, and state-of-the-art. It’s the place to be.
