2025 marks the program’s fiftieth anniversary. For half a century, the EFY program has been changing countless youth’s lives. In its first three years, enrollment went from 172 to 2,361 youth. The meteoric growth of EFY hasn’t stopped; the program has grown significantly, serving tens of thousands of youth on a global level.
Landon Badoni, an EFY Program Administrator, has seen EFY bless his own life time and time again. After an older sibling convinced him to attend, he instantly fell in love with the program.
“I fell in love with the program because of the connections that I made,” he says. “Connection to the other youth that were in my company and also with the Savior in a way that I hadn't experienced before.”
Badoni isn’t alone in his EFY connection to Christ. The program is all about helping as many youth engage with the divine as possible. In 2023, EFY participants achieved nearly one thousand proxy baptisms! That’s some serious spiritual power. It reflects the engaged, Christ-centered nature of the program.
EFY students don’t just sit in classrooms all day reading scriptures, though; the program prides itself helping youth see Christ in a diverse array of environments and activities.
“There are youth that connect better outside of a classroom,” Landon says. “Sometimes when you're in a raft in Moab, rafting down the Colorado River, you see the Savior in your life and you connect better than sitting in a classroom at a desk.”
Participants have connected to Christ in big ways. Some of their favorite parts include:
“The studying of the Living Christ. That's where I came to know Jesus Christ, who He is to me, and the power and spirit he holds and brings.”
“Testimony meeting!! Hearing testimonies in Chinese, Hawaiian, Spanish, and English really opened the windows of heaven for me. God is aware of us no matter who we are, where we're from, and what language we speak.”
“The testimony meeting on Thursday, because it helped us feel so close to God by sharing what we had learned and felt during the week.”
“Just about everything.”
