After 50 years of shaping meaningful summer experiences for youth, Especially For Youth (EFY) is entering a new era: BYU Expeditions. This new direction is a continuation of the EFY legacy. This allows the program to more closely align with Brigham Young University’s mission and expands what the program can offer now and in the years ahead.
Founded in 1976, EFY has served close to a million attendees since its inception. While we evolve into BYU Expeditions, program leaders emphasize that the heart of the program has remained the same.
What’s Staying the Same
According to a press release by organizers, core elements that have defined EFY for half a century, which will continue under the BYU Expeditions banner, including:
- The same trusted structure and emphasis on safety
- Experienced staff and meaningful programming
- A continued focus on youth development and spiritual growth
Why “BYU Expeditions”
The word “expedition” is intentional, as it captures both purpose and direction for the program. It also conveys a transformative journey, one centered on the spirit of exploration, growth, and shared experience.
The rebrand also reflects deeper alignment with Brigham Young University’s broader mission. That evolution will allow the program to enhance experiences, introduce new session types and offerings, and continue raising the standard for youth camps.
Looking Ahead
This summer will be the inaugural season of BYU Expeditions, marking the official beginning of an exciting new chapter built on a 50-year legacy. For those already familiar with EFY and those who are discovering the program for the first time, the mission has remained the same with a renewed vision. BYU Expeditions is committed to offering the most impactful experiences for youth that they won’t forget.
